What we keep, and why

Ohcia is a small photography studio. We keep what we need to answer you, photograph you, and hand your photographs over — and nothing we would be embarrassed to explain.

Visiting this site

No cookies. The one thing kept on your device is your choice of light or dark, if you make one, and it never leaves your browser — and, on a gallery page, the name and email you gave it, so it need not ask again. A visitor counter notes which page was opened, the site you came from, and whether you were on a phone, tablet or desktop. To tell one visitor from another within a day it keeps a scrambled version of your address and browser, with a key that is replaced every day; your address itself is never stored. The gallery and guide pages send only the path, never the private key or passcode in the link.

Enquiring or booking

What you put in the enquiry form or the booking page — your name, email address, phone number, the session you have in mind, the dates, and your message — goes into the studio's own records so that we can reply, arrange the session and, later, send you your photographs and an invoice. Those records are kept in SeeWork, the software we run the studio on. The date, place and title of a session that is going ahead are also written to the studio's Google Calendar, as described below. Your details are not sold, and they are not shared with anyone who is not helping us photograph you.

Your gallery and your guide

Your photographs are delivered on a private page reached only by the link we send you, with a passcode if you want one. The page asks the name and email of whoever opens it, and we note when it is opened, when a wrong passcode is tried, and which photographs are downloaded and by whom, so we know your photographs reached you and can help if a link goes astray. Those names and addresses are kept with the gallery, in the studio's own records. Your session guide is a private link in the same way; to show the forecast it asks a weather service for the place and the date, and nothing about you. Photographs from your session appear on this site or on our social media only with your agreement.

Google Calendar

The studio's own apps — the ones we use at the desk and in the field, not anything you install — can connect to the studio's Google Calendar so that sessions in our diary appear in it and a session moved there moves in the diary. That connection is made by the studio, to the studio's own Google account, and reaches only the calendars we choose. It reads the list of calendars and reads and writes calendar events; it does not read email, contacts, files or anything else in the account. The keys Google issues are kept in the device's own keychain, never on a server, and the connection can be ended at any time from the app or from the Google account's Third-party access page.

Ohcia's use and transfer to any other application of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your rights

Ask us what we hold about you and we will tell you. Ask us to correct it or delete it and we will, unless something we are legally obliged to keep, such as an invoice, stands in the way. Write to hello@ohcia.studio.
